Multiple-Objective Optimization in Naval Ship Design
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents an optimization methodology that includes three important components necessary for a systematic approach to naval ship concept design. These are: • An efficient and effective search of design space for non-dominated designs • Well-defined and quantitative measures of objective attributes • An effective format to describe the design space and to present non-dominated concepts for rational selection by the customer A Multiple-Objective Genetic Optimization (MOGO) is used to search design parameter space and identify non-dominated design concepts based on life cycle cost and mission effectiveness. A nondominated frontier and selected generations of feasible designs are used to present results to the customer for selection of preferred alternatives. A naval ship design application is presented.

During design spiral of a merchant ship or a naval vessel, it is important to perform towing tank tests in order to measure its performance either in calm water maneuvers or in waves for seakeeping performance. Also, to optimize a hydrodynamic design, towing tank tests are advantageous. This article presents the results of an applied research project. The objective of this project is to design a...

متن کاملShip Design Using Heuristic Optimization Methods
Preliminary ship design is currently more art than science, heavily dependent on highly experienced naval architects. The use of genetic algorithms is proposed as a method for improving ship design through more effective exploration of the design space. Three main points are advanced in this paper. First, genetic algorithms (GA) are a highly effective tool for the exploration of large-scale, no...
متن کاملCapability-Based System-of-Systems Approach in Support of Complex Naval Ship Design
Naval ship design can be understood to be a networked System-ofSystems (SoS) multidisciplinary process whereby a decision on one aspect of the design may have simultaneous, multiple order effects on other aspects of the design. Modern naval ship design should therefore consider the systems of interest as components subsumed by a holistic environment encompassing assets and capabilities inorgani...
